Kevin Smith’s R-rated ‘Porno’
Director Kevin Smith has won a "huge victory" over censorship, said Peter Sciretta in the blog Slash Film. Smith appealed the NC-17 rating of his upcoming film Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and got the Motion Picture Association of America to change the rating to R. The NC-17 rating seemed silly in the first place: “Any adult would understand the risk of bringing a minor to a movie with the word ‘porno’ in the title.”
This is hardly a victory, said Brad Brevet in the blog Rope of Silicon. “Smith was under contract to deliver an R-rating and he had cut the film a couple times already trying to get the NC-17 removed.” In other words, “a governing body had to tell him how his project had to be before it could be shown to audiences.”
“Call me a prude,” said Joanne Hinkel in the blog Film.com, “but I do think most of Kevin Smith’s movies have been too raunchy for the mainstream,” and an NC-17 rating seems appropriate for his latest. That “sex-with-a-donkey scene” in Clerks 2 “still haunts me to this day.”

I worry about Kevin Smith. I really do. I mean, it's kind of like Orson Welles after he made "Citizen Cane". How do you top something like that? Well, ever since Smith's inspired genius of cinema "Jersey Girl," he's been kind of in a downward spiral...And who's this Seth Rogen he cast in this new movie. Not only have I never heard of him, but by the looks of him, there's zero chance this guy could star in a hit movie. Zero. Zilch. Perhaps Smith should turn his camera onto the problems of the world for inspiration...Like "Do cell phones cause brain cancer?" Stuff people need to know about...
Have you been sleeping under a rock? Seth Rogen is one of the biggest comedy stars around.
Citizen Cane? Obviously you are someone who knows enough about film to criticize Kevin Smith, but you misspell the title of one of the greatest pieces of American cinema in efforts to use it as an example in your criticism... suspect sir, suspect
